LOWER BACK PAIN

LUMBAR SPINE LOWER BACK PAIN A.K.A. LBP

Lower-Back-Pain

Lower back pain is an extremely common condition that affects somewhere between 60-80% of people at some point in their life. There are a lot of potential causes behind lower back pain, but most people get diagnosed with “non-specific low back pain.” In these cases, the source of the pain is mechanical, as opposed to pathological.

There are three subtypes for lower back pain. The first is acute, meaning that it’s just a short episode lasting under six weeks. Pain that persists for six to 12 weeks is categorized as sub-acute, and lower back pain that hangs around even longer is considered chronic.

Although athletes can develop lower back pain just as anyone else would, their lifestyles put them at a higher risk. Games like golf, gymnastics, and tennis call for regular twisting and turning in the lower back. In weight lifting, diving, and rowing, the lower back is under stress, and used to absorb pressure. Football players and roller derby players are at high risk of taking on direct impact to their lumbar spine. Whether it’s caused by overuse or a sudden muscle strain, lower back pain is a common symptom in the sports medicine world.

Poor posture can also contribute to low back pain. Many of the people who have lower back pain at some time in their life get it from sitting at a desk or lifting all day for their job. Athletes make very specific demands on their bodies, so if their technique is poor,

it could easily cause problems in the lower back. At MOTUS, it’s our goal to identify the underlying cause of the pain and help our patient correct it.

Our first step to discovering the right treatment plan for lower back pain is taking account of any biological factors that might be contributing, like weakness or stiffness. We will want to know about your activity level and daily physical routine, as well as hear about any previous injuries or issues. This will help us decide what, if anything, we need to address outside of the lower back.

When it comes to addressing your current pain and discomfort, we will use one of our innovative tools on hand at MOTUS. We have seen success with options like shockwave therapy, NMES, and hot and cold therapy. We will also help you work on some prevention by introducing a new exercise routine meant to take some of the pressure off of the lower back.

I had been diagnosed with degenerative lower back issues. The doctors solutions were no more running and pain medications as needed. I really wasn’t comfortable with either suggestion and felt there just had to be other options. Not only is my back stronger but I have been given the tools not only to decrease my pain but also allow me to continue running. I cannot stress enough what a difference this has made not only in my back but my overall health and mental well-being. I have surpassed some of my personal goals of 20 miles in a week, no pain medications and weight loss with ZERO PAIN!!!! I cannot thank the MOTUS Team enough. I’m not a professional athlete or really even a fitness fanatic. I’m a 56 year old wife, mother and grandmother who can say I’m in the best shape of my life. I encourage you to check them out whether you are an athlete on the mend, dealing with an injury or diagnosis that you are being told will alter your life or just a mom/grandma looking to improve your way of life. I cannot recommend MOTUS enough!!!
