PATELLAR TENDON/ QUAD TENDON TEAR

KNEE PATELLAR TENDONITIS AKA JUMPER’S KNEE, LANDER’S KNEE

Patellar-Tendonitis

we will screen them for patellar tendonitis. This is a condition where the patellar tendon, which connects the kneecap to the shin bone, becomes inflamed.

We usually see this condition develop in athletes between the ages of 15-30. It’s a common overuse injury in sports that demand lots of heavy loading on the patellar tendon. The more susceptible sports include football, basketball, tennis, track and field, and volleyball.

The most common source of heavy loading on the knee is jumping, which explains why patellar tendonitis has earned the nickname “jumper’s knee.” If patellar tendonitis goes untreated, it can worsen and lead to a tear or a rupture in the patellar tendon. For this reason, it is extremely important that athletes take their knee pain seriously and address it right away.

Diagnosing patellar tendonitis is generally pretty simple. Our experienced clinician will evaluate your symptoms in the context of your age, activity level, and overall history. They will also conduct a physical exam. Generally, the front of the knee is very tender. An athlete with patellar tendonitis may also have trouble jumping, kneeling, or walking up and down stairs without a lot of pain.

Because patellar tendonitis is an overuse injury, rest is an important part of recovery. The healing process should also include an evaluation of performance that can help you build the strength you need to prevent future injury to the patellar tendon.

As you recover, some of our innovative tools may be an important part of your treatment plan. In addition to regular ice and compression we might suggest our hot and cold therapy, full leg ice compression, NMES, or exercise on our anti-gravity treadmill.

At MOTUS, we don’t treat with tunnel vision. We seek to find the source of the problem, and help our patients heal in a way that will protect from future injuries. When treating patellar tendonitis, we will help you build a routine of strengthening exercises and stretches that will help your body perform its athletic demands in a way that is controlled and safe.

I had been diagnosed with degenerative lower back issues. The doctors solutions were no more running and pain medications as needed. I really wasn’t comfortable with either suggestion and felt there just had to be other options. Not only is my back stronger but I have been given the tools not only to decrease my pain but also allow me to continue running. I cannot stress enough what a difference this has made not only in my back but my overall health and mental well-being. I have surpassed some of my personal goals of 20 miles in a week, no pain medications and weight loss with ZERO PAIN!!!! I cannot thank the MOTUS Team enough. I’m not a professional athlete or really even a fitness fanatic. I’m a 56 year old wife, mother and grandmother who can say I’m in the best shape of my life. I encourage you to check them out whether you are an athlete on the mend, dealing with an injury or diagnosis that you are being told will alter your life or just a mom/grandma looking to improve your way of life. I cannot recommend MOTUS enough!!!
